PreMades are great; you can just slap a few things on top and BAM you have a master piece
PreMades can be a curse too. Not only do you have to make sure all PreMades contain credits (they can contain copyrighted images, which violates dA's TOS and © policies*), you need to make sure PreMades fit the lighting on the art you are creating. For the purpose of Terra-Vista I encourage you to make your own. You are an artist aren't you? Creating a BG is fun and really can add so much to your art, since you can place things where you want them, to the left or right of your image. Try making your own BGs for all of our exercises.

All pngs are just way too easy to use. No cutting needed and you can find one for what ever you need. Hell, you can even create art using nothing but pngs... kinda like a cut and paste artist. :| When using pngs you must make sure they are cut from legitimate stock; many are cut from copyrighted material* which is a no-no to deviantART and most groups.

Groups are getting real picky about the art they are accepting, most turn down anything made with PreMades and/or pngs, so be careful or you might be the only one to view your art.

This, of course, is just a suggestion. You came to Terra-Vista to learn a few things, and while not everyone follows dA's policy on things, I DO support them. The easy way is not really being an artist, and you won't learn by using PreMades. So, be careful and make sure when you have to use PreMades to check for credits from the original sources, which IS dA's TOS and © policies; stock artists must provide you with links to the original resources for PreMades, as well as pngs and clear-cuts.

We are compiling the critiques of your works, and I will be posting them soon. I think the admins are doing a great job with this project, and you should (IF YOU LISTEN) learn a lot just from this one exercise. BTW our next exercise will be based on our findings. I hope more of you create something for these exercises, which will be how you learn! Those that play along can submit a piece of their art to the members art folder. Go ahead, that's what it's there for.

It's what you do with those PNG files that counts, not necessarily the files themselves.  I appreciate the time-saving aspect of PNGs and frankly if something in made in a 3D program, or are hand-drawn for the purposes of transparency, then they are going to be PNGs regardless. So I think anyone or any group that has a bug up it's butt about them should get over it. Premades I could leave or take - I really only prefer the drawn ones rather than those that are pieced together by someone else because then at least you know exactly where it's come from.  And again, it's what do you with them that counts. Copying/pasting stuff onto a premade background and calling it done is not "manipulation". I can see why groups would get sick of such submissions. :)
